There is some trim on my sunroof that cracked in half years ago and I keep trying to glue it but it never held. It’s purely cosmetic and I rarely even see it but it’s rattle against the sunroof cover when off road was driving me nuts. I bought 2 part epoxy to try again tonight and as I went to prep it it started breaking... So of it went. Good riddance.

I must say, those trim pieces look really good for being in direct contact with the sun for over 20 years!

Buy an LX570

Ye’, that’s standard. Plastics leech oils that soon evaporate. Make the plastic more and more brittle.
The process is usually most noticeable is on black plastic bumpers where the black turns into more of a grey colour.
Tyres are the same but they have a chemical added to reduce UV brake down, you’ll notice the chemical as a brown blooming on the tyre walls.

how much for the replacement part from Toyota?

replacements are NLA. The last year of this model was 1997, so even the best scrapyard parts are still 20 years old.

This is exactly why I’m putting off dealing with a rattle in my sunroof. 20 years of service and it’s the only part that rattles.

Seems logical

if you can get me the part number i’ll check with Toyota dealer here in Oz.

A new sunroof. Seriously

Fairly certain that it’s been out of production for years and years, not entirely sure how many Oz trucks came with a sunroof, but the part numbers for Ivory/tan trim are as follows:
63635-60010-A0 Garnish, sliding roof, front, Ivory
63217-60010-A0 Garnish, sliding roof side, RH, Ivory
63218-60010-A0 Garnish, sliding roof side, LH, Ivory
63219-60010-A0 Garnish, sliding roof, rear, Ivory

LX570 has an incredibly sophisticated AHC suspension that’s an absolute nightmare to try to replace. 200 series is really the more preferable version if you intend on modifying it in any way, plus nobody makes aftermarket parts for the predator grille 570's.

Just do it. It’s not worth the rattle. It’s either the springs in the wind deflector ( use foam to rest them on in the stored position) or the brittle plastic that I will never notice missing

Hm, probably a good idea. If I bump the “Up” switch after closing it, most of the rattle is gone. Maybe new weather strip? I know I’d keep the cover open all the time if it was quieter...

How’s it look without the plastic?
![]() 07/13/2017 at 11:48 |

Not nearly as strange as I thought. You’d only notice by the sudden change from trim to no trim

There is no new weather strip. It’s all one piece.

Whenever I’ve had a sunroof in a car, I’ve disabled the electric motor and siliconed it shut.

For a 20 year old sunroof, it functions flawlessly. Opens and closes smoothly, no leaks. Just the occasional rattle on rough surfaces. I’ve seen others do as you’ve mentioned, but I’d like to keep it functioning as long as possible because we do use it somewhat frequently.

Isn’t that plastic part sold separate?

nope. The word on the street (which I haven’t actually followed up to check) is that the only parts left available to replace sunroof parts are...sunroofs. The whole ball of wax. They don’t piecemeal the parts anymore.
